Summary
I wanted to create a tool that allows the user to close a can without the carbon dioxide evaporating.
I started off by modeling an aluminum can in Solidworks using the measurements of one i had on hand. After this I modeled a plastic part that war made to perfectly fit underneath the pull top, keeping it in place and the opening air tight. The current 3D printed model in in solid plastic, but the real product when finished would be made out of soft rubber to allow it to snuggly wrap around the can, as well as making it more hygienic and easier to clean. With the first version I experimented with a lid that the user would twist together with the pull top, rotating both of them to cover the opening, however this idea proved cumbersome, especially difficuilt for children or elders. Furthermore, the thin metal of the pull top would snap after a couple of times, making the lid unable to keep in place. I therefore decided on a design where the user could simply slide in the lid.
