🚀 Team BIOCRAFT from the University of Kelaniya, University of Moratuwa, and NSBM is competing in the Sri Lanka Inter-University Make-A-Thon. Our project supports 🩺 Mr. S. Thileepan, a 32-year-old who suffered severe hand injuries from an electric shock, losing fine motor control. After 13 surgeries, he still struggles to work and support his family. 🔍 A key insight from our research is that when he bends his thumb toward his palm, his fingers move slightly, which we used to design assistive devices. 🛠️ We developed two solutions: ✍️ a Pen Holding Assister that helps him write 4× faster with no pain, and 🚗 a Driving Assister that improves grip and steering. Our designs follow three main principles: ✅ Low-cost for affordability, ✅ Lightweight for ease of use, and ✅ No electronics to avoid charging issues. 🌟 Our goal is to help Mr. Thileepan regain independence, secure a job, and improve his quality of life.
